Virgle M. Poole, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Glen Walton, minister of San Jacinto Church of Christ in Amarillo, and Keith Feerer, minister of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by the U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Poole was born Dec. 9, 1923 in Polk County, Arkansas and had been a Pampa resident since 1954. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre and received a letter of commendation from General Patton in 1945 when he received his honorable discharge. Virgle married Patsy Johnston on Jan. 12, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. He worked for B & L Tank Trucks from 1968-1989 and later worked for the Pampa News for several years. He was a member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ and was active in the Pampa Optimist Club for many years. Virgle and Patsy were foster parents for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Poole, of the home; two sons, Micheal R. Poole and wife Dawna of Amarillo and Chris Poole and wife Wendy of Benbrook; three daughters, Becky Potter and husband Gary of Pampa, Rhonda Fletcher and husband Mark of Amarillo, and Tracy Fanous and husband John of McKinney; three sisters, Helen Nokes of Pampa, Maudine Skidmore and husband Freddie of Monticello, Utah, and Imergene Bond and husband Raymond of Golden Valley, Arizona; three brothers, H. H. “Red” Poole and wife Leona of Dove Creek, Colorado, Lloyd Poole and wife Virginia of Amarillo, and Eugene Poole and wife Gayle of White Deer; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
