Myrtle Laflin, 79, entered into rest Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Brian Cooper, Interim Hospice chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Laflin was born August 11, 1934 in Amarillo. She was reared in Spring Creek and graduated from Borger High School. She attended West Texas State University, receiving her B.S. degree in education. She married Carl Laflin on December 23, 1955 in Clovis, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1991. Myrtle taught school in Miami and later came to Pampa where she taught at Travis Elementary for more than 25 years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Retta Hunter Wheeler, a daughter, Donna Laflin, a sister, Sue Clark, and a brother, Bill Wheeler. Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Alaway and husband Don of Perryton, and Betty Parks and husband Don of Willis, a sister, Barbara Austin of San Antonio, three granddaughters, Crystal Vaquera and Sarah Britton and husband Bradley, all of Amarillo, and Taylor Parks of Willis, two grandsons, Joe Alaway of Lubbock and Kelly Kolb of Lewisville, and four great-grandchildren, Rebeca, Peyton, Claire and Aaliyah. The family would like to express their thanks to Becky and Liz with Interim Hospice for the loving care they gave Myrtle.
