Ferline Calvert

April 13, 1921 — December 16, 2013

Our beloved mother, Ferline Calvert, 92, longtime resident of Pampa, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Hico Care Center. She had been residing in Hico for the past three years with her daughter and son-in-law. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Highland Baptist Church in Pampa, with Pastor Paul Nachtigall, officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Calvert was born April 13, 1921 in Ohio County, Kentucky to B. F. and Victoria Evans. She was one of seven children. She graduated in 1940 from Center Town High School in Kentucky. Ferline married A. W. Calvert on October 19, 1940 in Hartford, Kentucky. A. W. was transferred from Illinois to Pampa with Phillips Petroleum Company in 1955 where they raised their three girls. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2008. Ferline was employed by Ideal Foods store for many years. She was an active member of Highland Baptist Church for 54 years where she was a leader for GA’s, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the WMU. She was a founding member of the 1900 block of Banks Street Highland Hobby Club. Her favorite hobby was quilting, and she enjoyed cooking and camping. Ferline was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings; a great-granddaughter, Shandra Snapp; and a great-grandson, Jarred Winegeart. Survivors include her three daughters, Vicki Spencer and husband Paul of Hico, Jan Snapp and husband Allen of Pampa, and Martha Campbell and husband Jimmy of Montgomery; six grandchildren, Steven Guenther, Rebekkah Gunn, Shane Campbell, Alana Winegeart, Shelli Minton, and Chad Snapp; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Hico Care Center and Alpha Omega Hospice nurses Daniel, Shirley and Carol for the loving and compassionate care you gave our mother. We will greatly miss her wisdom, humor and stories. She was loved and cherished by many. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Friday, December 20, 2013, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Pampa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church, 1301 N. Banks, Pampa, Texas 79065.
