Tommy J. Bowermon, 90, of Justin and formerly of Pampa, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in Denton. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Friday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa with Rev. Gerre Joiner, pastor of First Baptist Church of Decatur, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U. S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Bowermon was born April 12, 1923 in Lakeview, Texas to Jess and Stella Penninger Bowermon. The family moved to Pampa in 1929. Tommy attended Pampa High School and joined the U. S. Army in January, 1942. He served in the European Theatre of Operations with the 29th Division. He went ashore in Europe on D Day +1 at Omaha Beach and served with the 29th Division until the end of World War II. Tommy married Evaughn Kyle in April of 1947, and they were married for 58 years before her death in March of 2005. He was a longtime pipefitter and was a member of Union Local #196 in Amarillo. Survivors include his son, Larry Bowermon and wife Lynn; his daughter, Lee Irwin and husband James; his grandchildren, Jeff Bowermon and wife Bojana, Bryan Irwin and wife Jennifer, Amy Ellis, and Jill Gaskins and husband Bart; his great grandchildren, Lane Irwin, Maddison Irwin, Hailey Bowermon, Peyton Ellis, Ryan Bowermon, and Cade Gaskins. Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. He will be greatly missed.
