John "Jack" Reeve

John “Jack” Reeve, 90, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Pampa. Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, with Rev. Linda Kelly, rector, and the Rt. Rev. Sam Hulsey, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Jack was born on February 28, 1923 to John Rumsey and Isabelle Key Reeve in Casper, Wyoming. He received a BSME from Oklahoma State University in 1948. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and several engineering groups and honor societies. He received his MSME from California Institute of Technology. He was married to Katherine Pigford on November 27, 1945. Toward the end of WW II, he served in the US Navy, flying a TBF Avenger over the Pacific as a torpedo bomber pilot. He remained in the US Navy Reserves until 1952 when was honorably discharged. Jack was a member of the American Petroleum Register: Professional Engineer and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He was named Citizen of the Year for Pampa, Texas in 2005. He received the Golden Nail Distinguished Volunteer Award from the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce the same year. Other awards and recognitions include the Heartbeat of Rotary Award and the Rotary Paige Carruth Award for Distinguished Service. Jack was named Boss of the Year several times by Desk and Derrick organization and the American Business Woman’s Association. Reeve served nine years on the Board of Directors for Pampa Regional Medical Center, was a Chairman for The United Way and served on the Gray County Appraisal Board. When his boys were young, he served as both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He mentored at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Pampa for eight years. He was on the Pampa Fine Arts Association Board and co-chaired the Super Playground Project. Jack was a prime driver in the fund raising, design, and construction of the new chapel at the Rufe Jordan Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice near Pampa. Reeve was a lifelong Episcopalian. As an active member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church for 57 years, he served on the vestry for 21 years. He supported St. Matthew’s Day School with renovations and served as a board member. Since the mid 90’s, Jack and his family have maintained a summer residence in Lake City, a beautiful small town in southwestern Colorado. Jack and Katherine have enjoyed wonderful friends in Lake City. He devoted himself to community projects and was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church. His daughter, Natalie Reeve, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Katherine Reeve; children include Russell Reeve and his wife Kim of Lucas; Randall Reeve and his wife Mary of Ruidoso, NM; grandchildren John Reeve, Katie Chaney, Stacy Jimmerson, and Megan Sibley. Great grandchildren include Marcus Jimmerson, Anna Jimmerson, Jacob Jimmerson, Rebecca Bates, Jean-Paul Reeve, and Isaiah Sibley. The family would like to express their thanks to Odyssey Hospice and Coronado Health Care Center for the love and care they provided to Jack.
