Amarillo, Texas Billie Louise Combs Jinks, 86, formerly of Lefors, died January 28, 2014 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2014, at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean, with Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of United Methodist Church of McLean, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Jinks was born April 19, 1927 in Borger. She attended schools in Lefors and married Harold Wood Ellis in September of 1944. She lived a short time in California, moving back to Lefors in January of 1947. She worked for several businesses in Pampa and Amarillo, including the public library system in Amarillo and Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in Amarillo as a dorm mother. She later married James E. Jinks in November of 1952. They lived in Lefors and Dumas, and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1970. Mrs. Jinks loved to dance. She was with a group who line danced in Amarillo at nursing homes and other places in the Amarillo area. She was a devoted Methodist, where she was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by her parents, W. R. and Ruby Combs; brother, Harold Combs; two sisters, Merle Rosser and Bobbie Koscheski; a granddaughter, Stephanie Hewson; sister-in-law, Emma Laura Combs; two brothers-in-law, Woody Rosser and Wayne Koscheski; and several nieces and nephews. Survivors include her son, Ronald Ben Ellis and wife Carolyn of Purcell, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Catherine Sherman of Norman, Oklahoma, and Alicia Ellis of Washington, Oklahoma; a brother, Joel R. Combs and wife Bobbye of Pampa; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, January 30, 2014. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
