George P. Henderson, Jr., 90, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, and Rev. Barry Owens, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Henderson was born June 22, 1923 in Wheeler County to Minnie Lee Tucker Henderson and George P. Henderson, Sr. He attended schools in Wheeler. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II and was discharged as a sergeant. George married Dorothy Ann Purcell on November 27, 1947 in Shamrock at her parents’ home. He worked for Cabot Oil & Gas for 38 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM for over 57 years. George was a member of Pampa Senior Citizens Center and was a Baptist. He loved to travel in RV’s, fish and garden. The family would like to thank Hospice Care of the Southwest for their excellent care for the last five days of his life. They would also like to thank Accolade Home Health Care for their wonderful care for the last fifteen years. In addition, the family would like to thank Dina Carbajal, Ashtin Sackett and Patricia Jones for their twenty-four hour care of George over the last several months. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ann of the home; a daughter, Jan Stroud and husband Jim of Pampa; two granddaughters, Angie Martindale and Robin Keough and husband Jimmy, all of Pampa; four great-grandsons, Rhett Skinner, Casey Martindale, J. T. Skinner and Logan Martindale, all of Pampa. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Tommie Henderson; by a nephew, Bob Henderson; and by his parents.
