C. W. Long, 84, of Pampa, died Saturday, February 15, 2014, in Pampa. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Miami Cemetery in Miami with Pastor Erron Mercer of the Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Long was born July 2, 1929 in Grimes, Oklahoma to James and Willa Marie Long. He had been a resident of Gray and Roberts Counties for the past 70 years, and he attended Pampa High School. C. W. married Mary Ellington on Dec. 31, 1947 at the bride’s home in Gray County. He was a longtime rancher and farmer in Gray and Roberts Counties. C. W. loved horses and was a member of the Pampa Roping Club. He was a good husband, dad, and granddad, and he enjoyed the outdoors. Survivors include his wife, Mary Long, of the home; two daughters, Jimmie Thompson and Frances Isbell and husband Jerry, all of Pampa; two sisters, Loeva Beesinger and husband Leon of Alpine and Gereta Strickland and husband Joe of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren and their spouses, and several nieces and nephews. C. W. was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Laura Jean Hill, in 1991, and a sister, Modean Chattin, in 2013.
