Gene Fletcher, 79, died February 28, 2014 in Pampa. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Somerville Church of Christ, with Monte Joiner, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Gene was born August 19, 1934 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. As a young girl, her family moved to the Lefors area. She was a 1952 graduate of Lefors High School, where she served as the school vice president. Several years later, she entered nursing school where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. As a nurse, she worked at several medical facilities, including Highland General Hospital and Worley Hospital in Pampa, and at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Church of Christ. In her spare time, she enjoyed photography and gardening. She will be remembered as “Mom, friend, writer, photographer, gardener, student, teacher, beginner, expert and seer of beauty.” She was preceded in death by a son, Rick Fletcher, and her parents, Harold and Leoria Kimbley. Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Anne Withers and husband Bruce, and Amanda Remington, all of Lefors; two sons, Randy Fletcher and wife Reena Thapa of Vallejo, California, and Glenn Fletcher and wife Becky of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Thelma Matthews of Amarillo; two brothers, Philip Kimbley and wife Dottie of San Antonio, and Dick Kimbley and wife Florence of Pampa; one son-in-law, Joe Remington of Pampa; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
