Tom J. Henderson

Miami, Texas Tom J. Henderson, 73, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Laketon. Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Miami, with Rev. Anthony Inman, pastor, and Rev. Mindy McLanahan, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Muleshoe, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Henderson was born April 18, 1940 in Kokomo, Indiana and was a 1958 graduate of Sharpsville High School in Sharpsville, Indiana. He received a B. S. degree in education from West Texas State University in Canyon in 1963 and taught school in Sharpsville, Indiana for six years. Tom married Jane Beaver on Aug. 14, 1960 in St. John, Kansas. He had been a resident of the Miami area since 1969 where he was a longtime farmer. Tom was a member of the United Methodist Church of Miami where he served on numerous boards. He was a board member of the Miami ISD for 12 years and was an ASCS committee member for several years. Tom was a past member of the Miami Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Jane Henderson, of the home; a daughter, Holly Jackson and husband William of Miami; a son, Clay Henderson and wife Anna of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Max Henderson and wife Jane and Fred Henderson and wife Helen, all of Sharpsville, Indiana; a sister, Virginia Chambers, of Sharpsville, Indiana; two grandsons, Jarrett Dougherty and Brody Jackson, both of Miami; a granddaughter, Julia Henderson of Nashville, TN; a grandson to be born in May; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Miami, P. O. Box 248, Miami, TX 79059.
