Margaret "Maggie" Scott Shumate

Friendswood, Texas Margaret “Maggie” Scott Shumate, 98, died March 16, 2014 in Friendswood. Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 20, 2014, a Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Rev. Nick Matthews, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Shumate was born January 24, 1916 in Freeman, Missouri. She married Murrell W. “Jack” Shumate on September 9, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1997. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1942, moving to the Houston area 14 years ago. While in Pampa, she worked for Waters Law Firm as a secretary for 30 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Pampa Senior Citizens Center. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Fort and Marion Longley; and a brother, R. S. Scott. Survivors include a daughter, Joy Hampton and husband Wayne of League City; a sister, Wilma McDaniel of Broadway, North Carolina, three granddaughters, Karen Hunter and husband Joe, Julie Levett and husband Jon, and Laurie Morrow and husband M. L.; seven great-grandchildren, David Hunter, Matthew Hunter, Emily Winstead, Micah Hunter, Kylie Levett, Anderson Morrow and William Morrow; and six great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00-10:00 AM Thursday before the services.
