Doris Parnell

Doris Parnell, 92, died May 10, 2014 in Pampa. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, Oklahoma, with Rev. Rick Parnell, her son and associate pastor of Central Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Parnell was born August 5, 1921 in Guymon, Oklahoma. She graduated from Guymon High School in 1940 and attended Panhandle A & M College in Goodwell, Oklahoma for two years. She then went to work in Cactus, Texas at a government job where she was the banker for her department. It was at this facility they made part of the atomic bomb. Doris married Bill Parnell in 1943 in Texhoma, Oklahoma. They farmed in Holly, Colorado for 51 years, and she was the credit union manager for Holly Credit Union. In 1998 they moved to Pampa where she was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill on March 2, 1999; a son, Carl Parnell, and a great-grandson in 1996; her parents, E. J. and Ida Philippe; a sister, Wanda McWhirter; and two brothers, Alonzo and Chester Philippe. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Parnell and wife Jan of Pueblo, Colorado, and Rick Parnell and wife Amy of Pampa; seven grandchildren, Kim Gallant, Kevin Parnell, Ryan Parnell, Kyle Parnell, Carrie Hostetler, April Vandiver and Lana Martinez; and sixteen great-grandchildren. The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Meredith House where she was a resident for 3 ½ years, Accolade Home Health and Interim Hospice. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 513 E. Francis, Pampa, Texas 79065.
