Mary Baten, 92, of Pampa, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Groom, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Baten was born May 4, 1922 in Hood County, Texas. She married W. P. “Bill” Baten, Jr., on June 20, 1942 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1987. Mary had been a resident of Pampa since 1962, moving from Memphis, Texas. She worked for the Pampa Independent School District for five years before going to work as office manager for Federal Land Bank on June 22, 1970. She retired on December 31, 1986. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Winsome Fellowship Sunday School Class, and was a member and former president of United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Preceptor Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Pampa Senior Citizens Center, and was a member and former president of the Pampa Knife and Fork Club. Survivors include two daughters, Joy Webster of Weatherford, and Janetta Frazier and husband Bob of Pampa; four grandchildren, Keith Webster and wife Amy of Fort Worth, Jason Webster and wife Heather of Weatherford, Todd Webster and wife Leslie of Granbury, and Annie Harper of Abilene; two step granddaughters, Angela Porter and husband Chris and Amy Sutherland and husband Noah, all of Pampa; eight great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Benjamin Webster of Fort Worth, Hannah Putnam and Maddie Denault of Weatherford, Luke and Mallory Webster of Granbury, and William and Jacob Harper of Abilene; five step great grandchildren, Bradey, Emiley, and Abbey Porter, and Zane and Sierra Sutherland, all of Pampa; her sister, Myrtle Verden and husband James of Wheeler; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1981, Pampa, TX 79066-1981.
