Dona Pursley Cornutt, 98, of Pampa, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Glen Walton, associate minister of San Jacinto Church of Christ in Amarillo, and Keith Feerer, minister of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Cornutt was born April 1, 1916 in Miami, Texas to C. P. “Doc” Pursley and Rachel Dial Pursley. She was a graduate of Miami High School and received her B. A. degree in accounting from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Dona married James Travis Cornutt on Dec. 7, 1946 in Pampa. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1959. She worked in the family auto business, Plains Motor Co., in Pampa for several years. She taught award winning DECA classes at Pampa High School for several years and also ran the Co-op at Pampa High. Dona was a member of Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ. She was very active in the Pampa Chamber of Commerce serving on the board of directors, and she chaired the Chamber’s Country Fair for several years. In 1960, Dona was named the Pampa Woman of the Year and was later named the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. She was an artist and was a member of the Pampa Art Club. Dona was also a member of the Pampa Garden Club for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Molly Goodwin, of Ennis; two sons, C. E. “Doc” Cornutt and wife Linda of Dallas, and James Travis Cornutt, Jr. of Zurich, Switzerland; three grandchildren, Sara Boucher and husband Tripp of Dallas, Chris Cornutt and wife Resa of Frisco, and Shelly Goguen and husband Beren of Fort Collins, Colorado; and by 4 great grandchildren. Dona was also preceded in death by a brother, Ervin Pursley, in 1993. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
