Travis Johnston, 87, died June 4, 2014 in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, June 9, 2014, at First Christian Church, with Dr. Jeff Knighton, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson, Kansas, with Minister Bob Phipps, officiating. Military honors are courtesy of U. S. Army, Fort Riley, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Johnston was born September 19, 1926 in Tigress, Missouri. He had been a resident of Pampa for the past 34 years, and retired from Amoco Oil Company after 34 years of service. Travis was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving during World War II. He married Jo Ann Moore 65 years ago on March 20, 1949 in Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a member of First Christian Church. Travis was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing golf with the Seniors Golf Association at Hidden Hills Golf Course. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Vance; two brothers, Leroy Johnston and Charles Johnston, and a sister, Inez Cotter. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Johnston of the home; two daughters, Jean Gordon and husband Jim of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Jill Osborn and husband Steve of Roanoke, Virginia; two sons, Jim Johnston and wife Charla of McPherson, Kansas, and Joe Johnston and wife Beth of Edmond, Oklahoma; a sister, Jewel Cook of Brownsville; a brother, Ben Jansen; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 1633 N. Nelson, Pampa, Texas 79065.
