Irene Gutschow Coffee

Irene Gutschow Coffee, 91, of Miami, died June 24, 2014 in Miami. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, June 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Miami, with Deacon Monty Wheeler of the First Baptist Church of Miami, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Irene was born December 7, 1922 in Wenatchee, Washington to William Frederick and Alice Jane Luehm Gutschow. When she was very young, the family moved to Centralia, Washington. She worked as a switchboard operator at Fort Lewis. Irene was a USO hostess and loved to dance. She met Walter C. Coffee who was stationed at Fort Lewis during this time. They were married on October 24, 1944. They moved to Fort Polk, Louisiana and later to Miami where they raised their family. Irene was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to sew and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Irene loved to read and work crossword puzzles. She could be found during the spring and summer months working in her yard, growing flowers. Irene was a member of First Baptist Church and loved her Sunday school class members. She always had a warm smile and hug for everyone. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katherine Grace Coffee; a brother, Harold Leroy Gutschow; and two sisters, Jessie Louise Blowers and Winifred Alice Jent. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Walter C. Coffee of the home; two sons, Harold Coffee and wife Bobbie, and Charles Coffee and wife Rolanda, all of Canadian; one daughter, Cindy Wheeler and husband Ben of Miami; her grandchildren, Clint Wheeler and wife Leah of Burleson, Cleve Wheeler and wife Daphne of Miami, Abbie Pitt and husband Billy Paul of Amarillo, Cameron Coffee and wife Cara of Portland, Oregon, Logan Coffee and wife Leslie, and Ada Hill and husband Travis, all of Canadian, and Jim Coffee of Austin; and 17 great-grandchildren.
