Betty Marx Gordon, 93, of Pampa, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Pampa. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Friedewald, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Gordon was born Jan. 17, 1921 in Burkburnett to Fred and Gertrude Shryock and had been a resident of Pampa since 1935. She was a 1938 graduate of Pampa High School and received a B. A. degree from Texas Tech. While at Tech, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Betty married Henry Roy Hastings on March 18, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1944. She later married Myron A. Marx on Jan. 25, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1975. On Oct. 2, 1982, she married Joe Gordon, and he died in 1993. Betty worked for the district engineer’s office while they were building the Pampa Army Airfield. She also worked as a home service secretary for the American Red Cross. She was a legal secretary for the Gordon Law Firm for 36 years. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Pampa Army Airfield Reunion Association, the 20th Century Culture Club, and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. She was also a former director of the Texas Tech Ex-Students Association. Survivors include a son, Bob Marx, and wife Johnnie of Pampa; a niece, Betty K. Meyer of Idaho; a nephew, Buddy Shryock of Idaho; four cousins, Shirley Childress of Roswell, NM, John Cochran of Troy, Alabama, and Jim Tripplehorn and Tom Tripplehorn, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Fred E. Shryock, Jr. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Book of Remembrance, 525 N. Gray, Pampa, TX 79065.
