Janie Virginia Meador Shed Austin

Janie Virginia Meador Shed Austin, 85, of Pampa, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 2, 2014, in Pampa. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dallas Stringer, pastor, and Rev. Richard Bartel associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Janie was born Janie Virginia Simmons on October 21, 1928 in Wink, Texas to Garrett Lovell and Pauline Simmons. She was a 1946 graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, George D. “Don” Meador on January 25, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1971. She later married Walter Shed on January 16, 1976. Together they formed Shed Realtors and Associates where she served as co-owner and broker for over 20 years until after Walter’s death on May 3, 2004. Janie was active on committees with the Pampa Board of Realtors, the Texas Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors during her real estate career. She served on many civic organizations, including 21 years with the Planning and Zoning board with the City of Pampa. On October 13, 2009 at the age of 81, Janie married Boyd Austin. They enjoyed spending time at the Pampa Senior Citizens Center and McLean Country Club. Janie lived a full and happy life with her family around her. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin baby girls, Janie Marie Meador and Virginia Kay Meador on April 4, 1955; and her sister, Dorothy Phillips on June 6, 2004. Janie leaves behind many who loved her, including her husband, Boyd Austin of the home; a son, Gary Meador and wife Tanya of Amarillo; a daughter, Karen McGahen and husband Dicky of Pampa; four granddaughters, Shelby McGahen Huff and Kendal Meador, both of Amarillo, Shealyn McGahen of Wichita Falls, and Buffy Jennings and husband Dennis and their son Kelbie, all of Guymon, Oklahoma; a sister-in-law, Mary Jean Meador Johnson of Pampa; a brother-in-law, Clarence Shed of San Antonio; and her furry friend, “Zoe.” The family asks that contributions in Janie’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 415 W. 8th Ave., Suite 300, Amarillo, Texas 79101, or to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends at the home of Karen and Dicky McGahen, 1318 Mary Ellen in Pampa.
