Jimmy D. “Jim” Ward, 80, of Pampa, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, in Canadian. Memorial graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Rick Parnell, associate pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Ward was born March 27, 1934 in Shamrock to Clarence and Irene Ward and was a 1952 graduate of Shamrock High School. He attended North Texas State University in Denton and then was drafted into the U. S. Navy, where he served during the Korean War. Jim married Norma Jean Jennings in September of 1957 in Pampa. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2005. Jim and his family owned and operated Ward’s Minit Marts, a local convenience store chain, for several years. He later owned the Video Plaza which was the first video store in Pampa, and also owned Harvey’s Burgers & Shakes. Jim was also a realtor with his wife, Norma, at Norma Ward Realty for many years. He was a member and a past president of the Pampa Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Gold Coats. Survivors include two sons, Mike Ward and wife Tanya and Terry Ward and wife Vicky, all of Pampa; a daughter, Pam Little and husband Phil of Brentwood, Tennessee; a sister, Barbara Paskell of Bridgeport; 10 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kerry and Jack, and two sisters, Mary Francis and Betty Hoyler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tralee Crisis Center, P. O. Box 2880, Pampa, TX 79066-2880 or a charity of choice.
