Bernece Kent, 94, died August 18, 2014 in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Pampa, with Pastor Harold Abney of Afton Baptist Church of Afton, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Friday at Lockney Cemetery in Lockney, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Kent was born September 21, 1919 in Collin County where she attended school. She was baptized at 13 years old. She married Aubria Kent on November 20, 1937 in Pike. In 1947, they moved to Floyd County. He preceded her in death on their seventy-second wedding anniversary on November 20, 2009. She worked for Brown’s Department Store in Lockney for many years until her retirement. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Lockney. She had been a resident of Pampa since 2004 to be closer to her daughter. Bernece attended First Baptist Church and Sunday school in Pampa. In her spare time, she enjoyed flowers and working with her hands including quilting and crocheting. She continued quilting even after she lost her eyesight due to macular degeneration. Bernece was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and a son-in-law, Ronnie Loter. Survivors include her daughter, Wetia Loter of Pampa; two sons, Deral Kent and wife Carol of Humble, and Gary Lyn Kent of Ashville, North Carolina; a brother, Weldon Webb and wife Lois of Davis, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Kelly Loter of Dallas, Andrew Deral Kent of Hawaii, Stacy Schrap and husband Jim of Allen, Brian Joseph Kent of Humble, and Jeffrey Daniel Kent and wife Manisha of Berkeley, California; four great-granddaughters, Riley, Sophia, and Ava Loter, all of Dallas, and Shiloh Schrap of Allen; two great-grandsons, Knox Schrap of Allen, and Rohan Kent of Berkeley, California; and two sisters-in-law, Jo Webb of Lockney, and Dean Hackney and husband James of Arlington. Memorials may be made to Pampa Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 939, Pampa, Texas 79066-0939. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 on Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
