A P Coombes, 94, of Pampa, died August 24, 2014 in McLean. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Roy King, retired minister, officiating. Masonic rites are courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM, and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Coombes was born April 30, 1920 in Jayton. He married LaVerne Barker on December 19, 1938 in Pampa. She preceded him in death in August of 2005. A P worked for Panhandle Industrial, Grayco Division, for 13 years, and retired from Cabot Machinery after 22 years in 1966. He was a member of First Christian Church, and a life member of the Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM. A P was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II. He raised and raced homing pigeons for many years, and was a longtime member of the Pampa Roping Club. A P was preceded in death by his parents, K and Rosa Coombes; a sister, Billie Smithers; two brothers, H T Coombes and L J Coombes; and two grandsons, Josh Coombes and Daniel Coombes. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Alice Lindvay and husband Gary of Amarillo, and Jackie Harper of Pampa; two sons, Charles “Bob” Coombes and wife Judy of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and Pete Coombes and wife Theresa of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
