Ernest D. “Ernie” Berry, 74, of Pampa, died August 29, 2014 in Pampa after a valiant battle with cancer. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Briarwood Church with Rev. Ron McCaslin, pastor of Spring Creek Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Berry was born July 12, 1940 in Ringling, Oklahoma. He was reared in Borger where he attended school. After school years in Borger, he lived and worked primarily in Pampa, spending the majority of his career with Celanese Chemical Company, retiring in 2001 after 24 years of service. After retirement, Ernie spent his time in both Pampa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a member of Briarwood Church where he placed a major emphasis on service and filled various church leadership roles, while also placing major importance on community outreach to share his faith. He married Kathleen Eason on September 1, 1958 in Borger. Ernie’s family and friends loved him beyond words, and are grateful for the impact that he had on their lives. Despite the sorrow of their loss, they rejoice that he is now in peaceful and painless rest with God the Father. As Ernie always focused on the needs of his family, God will now provide him the same comfort, peace and security. He was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Berry in 2010. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Berry of the home; 2 daughters, Karla Berry of Fort Worth and Sherry Cox and husband Mike of Pampa; a son, Ronnie Berry and wife Berkley of Frisco; a sister, Sue Thornton and husband Raymond of Edmond, Oklahoma; two brothers, Raymond Berry and wife Martha of Canyon, and Dean and Virgie Berry of Borger. He was a beloved grandfather to Michelle Shedd and husband Logan, Jennifer Petroski and husband Bobby, and Jonathan Cox, all of Pampa, and Riley Berry of Frisco; and great-grandfather to Ashton Shedd, Christopher Shedd, Harper Shedd and Madison Petroski, all of Pampa. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
