Bill "Dodo" Harwood

Services will be at 9:00 AM Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Keith Feerer, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Bill was born on February 22, 1928 in Olustee, Oklahoma. He attended schools in Oklahoma and California. After leaving school, Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Later in 1948, he went to work for Southwestern Public Service as a line foreman where he retired after 44 years. Bill married Lynn Robinson on August 8, 1952 in Canyon. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2013 after 61 years of marriage. Bill was a long time member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ, and for many years, he took communion for all of the shut-ins of the church. After his retirement, he liked to give back to the community. He volunteered for the Pampa Regional Medical Center for many years and was given the volunteer of the year award several times. In his spare time he liked to play golf and was a regular participant of the senior scramble at Hidden Hills Golf Course in Pampa. Bill was known for his generosity, humor, and friendliness, and he never met a stranger. But most of all, Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred Harwood, Floyd Harwood, Buddy Harwood, and Haskell Harwood; and five sisters, Letha Gammon, Velma Powers, Ruth Conrad, Wilma Prichard, and Bertha Greteman. Survivors include two daughters; Rene Pittman of Amarillo, and Marsha Richardson and husband Jim of Pampa; a son, Steve Harwood and wife Terrie of Mobile, Alabama; a sister, Betty Avent of Amarillo; six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western, Amarillo, Texas 79118. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00-7:00 PM.
