Lavena Mae "Jean" Tyrrell

September 8, 1931 — September 28, 2014

Lavena Mae “Jean” Tyrrell, 83, of Pampa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 28, 2014, in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday at Fargo Cemetery in Fargo, Oklahoma with Rev. Shannon Davis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Woodward, Oklahoma, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Jean was born at home in Ellis County near Woodward, Oklahoma on Sept. 8, 1931 to Columbus and Hazel Treat. She grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and attended Ivanhoe Country School and then graduated from Laverne High School in Laverne, Oklahoma. Jean’s parents were active in their local Methodist church, and she and her siblings were musicians at various churches in the area. Jean played the accordion. Jean met Leo Tyrrell in 1950, and they married in December of that year. They moved around often as Leo worked in bridge construction and for Boeing Aircraft. They moved to Pampa in 1957, and Leo started with the Pampa Fire Department. Jean was very busy with five children but made time for activities in the First Church of the Nazarene and Bible Church of Pampa. She did bring her accordion out of retirement and played for child evangelism groups and at nursing homes. Jean will be remembered as a positive person who was dealt many physical hardships, but she never complained, and she always thought of others before herself. The family would like to express their thanks to Deborah Ferrell of Interim Hospice and to their neighbors, Dan and Brenda Morrison, for their loving care and assistance. Survivors include her husband, Leo Tyrrell, of the home; a son, Gary Tyrrell and wife Sherry of Pampa; four daughters, Mona Milam and husband Bob of Midland, Kathy Harvey and husband Craig of Woodward, OK, Jo Karbo and husband Kent, and Terri Cree and husband Kevin, all of Pampa; eight grandchildren, Mandy Archibald, Tyler Milam, Kacey Hulin, Kiaran Beck, Travis Harvey, Logan Karbo, Landon Karbo, and Chase Cree; and two great grandchildren, Rylee and Reagan Archibald. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Thelma Overton, a brother, Bud Treat, and a grandson, Justin Harvey. Memorials may be made to Child Evangelism, CEF of West Texas, Inc., 818 W. 9th Ave., Amarillo TX 79101-3206. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
