Grover Lee Heiskell, Sr., 92, formerly of Pampa, died October 5, 2014 in Peoria, Arizona. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2014, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, Texas, with Rev. Roy King, Disciples of Christ minister, officiating. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Sun City, Arizona. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Heiskell was born September 18, 1922 in Pampa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving as a pilot during World War II and Korea, retiring as a Major. At the end of World War II, Grover was selected to play with the traveling Marine basketball team. Grover married Elva Tubbs on June 29, 1946 in Pampa. He moved from Pampa in 1965 to Houston where he lived until 1998 when he moved to Sun City, Arizona. Grover was in industrial sales, selling Teflon products in the Houston ship channel for Panhandle Industrial and later Tetralene, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ. He was a former member of the Pampa Country Club where he loved to play golf, and also a member of the Palm Brook Country Club in Sun City, where every year while playing golf, he was able to shoot his age up until he turned 88. Grover was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Elva Heiskell of the home; a son, Grover Heiskell, Jr. and wife Jean, of Conroe, Texas; a daughter, Susan Jackson and husband Jeff of Arvada, Colorado; two grandsons, Trey Heiskell and wife Jennifer of Lafayette, California, and Matt Heiskell and wife Mandy of Bel Air, Maryland; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
