Dewey (D. L.) Phillips, 87, died October 22, 2014 in Pampa. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with Rev. Jim Sinyard, pastor of the Carpenter’s Church, officiating. Entombment will follow in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military honors courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Phillips was born March 12, 1927 in Jericho. He lived in Pampa and Ohio, returning to Pampa in 1969, where he lived up until the time of his death. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II and the Korean War. Dewey married Alice M. Johnson on February 15, 1957 in Clayton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on May 14, 2012. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Church. Dewey worked in the concrete business for many years at Borger Redi Mix Concrete and Pampa Concrete. After his retirement, he owned and operated a re-sale store. Dewey was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, and will be dearly missed. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Murphy and Loretta Dunovan; a brother, Darwin Phillips, and four nephews. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Basden, and Sherrie Marshall and husband Jackie, all of Pampa, and Tracey Srader and husband Lee of Opdyke, Illinois; a son, Taisey Phillips of Pampa; three grandsons, Ricky Basden and wife Cassie of Tupelo, Oklahoma, Richie Elgin of Australia, and Eric Gordzelik and wife Randi of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; three granddaughters, Misty Rossiter and husband Brian of McLean, Valinda Phillips of Lubbock, and Donna Morrison of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and nine great-grandchildren.
