Doris Jean White Petty, 92, of Pampa, died November 2, 2014 at her home in Pampa. Memorial graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Cross Plains Cemetery in Cross Plains, Texas, with Pastor Ronny White of Cross Plains Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Petty was born July 18, 1922 in Cross Plains. She attended grammar school and high school in Cross Plains. She was a high school cheerleader and was in a local trio singing group. She competed in a beauty contest at seventeen, and briefly attended Tarleton College. Jean married Kenneth L. White of Burkett, in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1985. She later married Ralph Petty in 2003. He preceded her in death in 2009. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1996, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. The angels came to take her home, and now Jean will be with her parents, Chess Wilburn and Minnie Hannah Viola Barr; three sisters, Velma Jackson, Ila Mae McAdams and Ruth Clark; and brother, William Barr. Survivors include her three children, Carolyn Holloway and husband Jim of Richardson, Suzanne Courtney and husband Fred of Pampa, and Kenneth L. White, Jr. and wife Sharon of Missouri; and Jean was blessed with eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
