Don Robert Slaybaugh

Don Robert Slaybaugh, age 72, passed away on Nov. 9, 2014 in Amarillo after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014, at First Christian Church, with Dr. Jeff Knighton, pastor, officiating. There will be a private family burial. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Don was born on April 4, 1942 in Shidler, Oklahoma, to William “Dean” Slaybaugh & Minnie Pence Slaybaugh. He moved to Borger as an infant & graduated from Borger High School in 1960. He began his electrical training while in high school by working at G.E. Jones Electric. Don married Linda Sue Robinson on November 18, 1960 in Stinnett. After moving to Pampa in 1974, he worked at Southard Electric Motor Service. In 1979, he established his own business, Harvester Electric, in Pampa. A few years later, he also established Bulldog Electric in Borger. He participated in this business as a hands-on consultant until recently. He was well known for his dry sense of humor and loved attending his sons sporting events as well as their hunting & fishing expeditions. He was happiest when being outdoors and enjoying his lake retreat at Lake Greenbelt or being with his grandchildren. In his earlier years, he worked with the Pampa Optimist Club, bowled & square danced and loved country western dancing. He was a member of the Borger Elks Lodge #1581 and was a former member of the Pampa & Borger Moose Lodges. Don was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Slaybaugh, George Slaybaugh, his sister-in-law, Carolyn Slaybaugh, two brothers-in-law, Dub Waldrep and Barry Park, and his parents. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Linda Slaybaugh; two sons, Stephen Lee Slaybaugh & special friend, Laura Hicks of Borger, and James Randall Slaybaugh & special friend, Jane Mouser of Pearland; grandchildren, Heather Jones & husband Eric of Rosenburg, Ashley Matthews & husband Mark of Grand Prairie, Cody Flowers & wife Davaleen of Tempe, Arizona, Shawnta’l McKinney and husband Kris of Pampa, Cara Slaybaugh and Rob Slaybaugh, both of Missouri City, Dean-Anna Hicks of Fritch, and Gabriel Farnstein of Blanco; great-grandchildren, Peyton & Gavin Matthews, Ethan Flowers, Izayah and Scarlett McKinney and Sadie Farnstein; his sisters, Nancy Waldrep of Borger, Val Jean Park of Douglas, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Jo Slaybaugh of Borger; and many cherished nieces & nephews. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 1633 N. Nelson, Pampa, Texas 79065.
