Harold Lee Lewis, 79, of Pampa, died December 14, 2014 in Pampa. His friends and family were by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Jim Sinyard of the Carpenter’s Church, and Ben Sturgeon, officiating. Cremation will follow, with arrangements under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Lewis was born September 22, 1935 in Pampa to William J. “Bill” and Zola Lewis, the last of three children. He attended Pampa High School, graduating in 1955. He excelled in football, basketball and track. A proud accomplishment was being part of the 1954 State Championship basketball team. Other accomplishments through Pampa High School included Harvester football 1952-1953, Co-Captain 1954, All District honorable mention 1953, All-State honorable mention 1953, All-District second team 1954, All-State 1954, All-Southern 1954, Shocker basketball, Co-Captain 1953, Harvester basketball 1954, Track 1953, 1954, 1955, baseball 1953, and most versatile boy 1955. After graduating high school, he married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Parker on August 19, 1955 in Pampa. They both attended the University of Houston because of Harold’s football scholarship starting in 1956. That same year in May, twin sons Howie and Dean were born. Harold was named Missouri Valley All-Conference 1st Team fullback in 1957 when the Cougars won the conference. He was co-captain of the team the following year. In the 1959 NFL draft, Harold was selected by the Baltimore Colts during the 7th round. That season was the year the Colts won the NFL World Championship. He later played for the Buffalo Bills in 1960. His twin daughters, Andrea and Annette were born in 1961. Harold’s final year of professional football in 1962 was played with the Oakland Raiders. Harold and Charlotte returned to their hometown to raise their family in 1963. He began working for Cabot Corporation where he ultimately retired after many years of service. Fishing and hunting were always favorite pastimes for Harold, along with spending time with his family. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Lewis and his wife Marlyn; and a sister, Billie Schultz. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Lewis of the home; four children, Howie Lewis of Borger, Dean Lewis and wife Debbie of League City, Andrea Caison of Pampa, and Annette Juhl and husband Tom of Austin; five grandchildren, Hunter Lewis and wife Melissa of Pampa, Shea Stillwagon and husband Nathan of Pampa, Allie Juhl of Austin, Parker Caison of Houston, and Colton Lewis of Galveston; a great-grandson, Brycen Lewis; an uncle, Bismark Blackstock of Pampa; along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to either the Carpenter’s Church, P.O. Box 1476, Pampa, Texas 79066-1476, or Accolade Hospice, 1224 N. Hobart, Pampa, Texas 79065. The family wishes to express their special thanks to Accolade Hospice, the nurses on the 3rd floor of Pampa Regional Medical Hospital, and Dr. Laxmichand Kamnani. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
