Mary Ann Bailey, 92, of Pampa, died January 5, 2015 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2014, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Brian Mashburn, minister of Southwest Church of Christ of Amarillo, officiating. Private burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in McLean, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Bailey was born May 7, 1922 in San Antonio. She was adopted by Edith Roberts and lived in Marfa until she was five years old, and then moved to San Francisco, California. Mary Ann was an air raid warden during World War II, and she also worked in the ship yards as a welder’s helper, building battleships. She later obtained her cosmetology license. Mary Ann married Melvin Bailey on February 16, 1946 in San Francisco. They later moved to Pampa where they reared their four children; a daughter, Nancy, and three sons, George, Brent and Brian. She worked at Cabot Corporation for many years. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Roberts; her husband, Melvin V. Bailey; and a brother, William Duffy Morris. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Peters and husband Joe of Tacoma, Washington; her three sons, George Bailey and wife Holly of Garland, Brent Bailey and wife Tammy, and Brian Bailey and wife Shana, all of Amarillo; four grandsons, four granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.
