Dorothy Herd

Dorothy Herd, 96, died January 13, 2015 in Pampa. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, January 16, 2015, at Prairie Dell Cemetery in Hemphill County, with Rev. Jim Yates, Interim Hospice chaplain, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Herd was born June 7, 1918 in Canadian to Thomas and Ruby Moore. She married Clemon Herd in July of 1935 in Canadian. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1975. Dorothy had been a resident of Pampa since 1959. She was a bookkeeper and secretary for Bruce & Sons for 30 ½ years, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, and the American Business Women’s Association. Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Kuykendall in 1998; a son, James Herd in 2006; a brother, Walt Moore, a sister, Naomi Briggs; a great-grandson, Dusty Baker; and a great-great-grandson, Ethan Neale. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hollis and husband Russell of Pampa; a brother, Morris Moore of Canadian; six grandchildren, Donnie Kuykendall of Hunter, Oklahoma, Janice Touchstone of Leedey, Oklahoma, Jill Schroeder and Monty Joe Kuykendall, both of Pampa, Yoby Henthorn of Anchorage, Alaska, and Cayl Hollis of Chicago, Illinois; 11 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Coronado Healthcare Center and Interim Hospice for their loving care.
