Mary Leah Clark

November 20, 1945 — January 4, 2015

Mary Leah Clark, 69, daughter of Melvin and Alta Clark, loving mother of Leah Nell Canon and Charlotte Canon Manteiga, passed away on January 4, 2015 at her home in Pampa, after a long battle with COPD. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Missionary Baptist Church in Paducah, with Pastor Kyle Ohsfeldt of Grace Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Clark was born November 20, 1945 in Paducah. She became a nurse in 1974 and worked for several years in the service of the elderly as a tribute to her grandmother, Mary Chloe Brownfield. On a much more personal nature, she switched to the care of recovering addicts, and in 1998, she received a Bachelor’s degree in counseling from Waylon Baptist University in Plainview. Mary worked as a chemical dependence counselor until her retirement in 2008. She then moved to Pampa in order to take care of her ailing father and stepmother. She loved helping others, reading, and her beloved pets, Sebastian, Meows-a-lot, and Little Lady. Mary will be greatly missed by her family, friends and pets. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Leon Clark; and three brothers, Melvin Otho Clark, Leon Ray Clark and Gerald Wayne Clark. Survivors include two daughters, Leah Canon of Killeen, and Charlotte Manteiga and husband Felipe of Pampa; her mother, Alta Brownfield Clark of Paducah; three grandchildren, Charles Jordan Sanders, Morgan Rae Sanders and Erik Nathaniel Brito; and her niece, Lisa Busby of Pampa.
