Marvin E. Bowman, 90, of Canyon, and formerly of Pampa, died January 21, 2015, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with military honors courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Bowman was born May 19, 1924 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Jess Earl and Faye Guthrie Bowman. He was a 1942 graduate of Lefors High School where he finished at the top of his class, and lettered in four sports during his senior year. He attended West Texas State College in 1942 on a football scholarship where he played football for four years, and earned both BS and MA degrees in 1949. Marvin started his career as an educator in Pampa Independent School District in 1949 where he served as administrator, coach and teacher for 29 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pampa. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Jess Bowman and Faye Bowman Neill; a sister, Joyce Grant and her husband Jack; a son, Barry Bowman. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Beth Bowman of the home; a son, Brian Bowman of Pasadena, California; a daughter, Linda Carey and husband Darrell of Canyon; five granddaughters, Angela Bowman of Pampa, Kalee Carey of Canyon, Christine Bowman of Portland, Oregon, Kacee Carey of Canyon, and Kristin Carey of Hereford; a grandson, Dylan Bowman of Austin; five great-grandchildren, Kinnlee, Brycen, Cassidy, Kaden and Chandler; his sister, Ann Wall and husband Wayne of Salida, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the funeral home.
