Dorothy Evelyn Cowan

November 28, 1939 — January 31, 2015

Dorothy Evelyn Cowan, 75, of Pampa, passed away January 31, 2015 in Pampa. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. Byron Williamson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. The second of three children, she was born November 28, 1939 in Borger, to Leon and Virginia Lyles. As a teenager, she attended high school at Spring Creek and soon got a job at the Cretney Drug Store. While working there, she met a smooth-talking, hard-working pipeliner by the name of Sherman Cowan. They were soon married on August 23, 1957 and remained in love even after Sherman's passing, just a few years after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary together. Together, the couple had three children, who in turn gave them seven grandchildren, who in turn continue to give them an ever-growing number of great grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy where she was in the hearts and attitudes of her family and friends, who are all more gracious, more stubborn, and more loving through the precious time they spent with her. She will be remembered as a strong-willed and loving woman committed to her faith, friends, and family. She will be dearly, dearly missed. She is survived by one son, Tim Cowan and wife Amber; one daughter Mandy Cummings and husband Bob; seven grandchildren, Seth, Shey, Aaron, Hedie, Derrick, Claire and Boone; and numerous great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home.
