John Neill Carr 67, of McLean, passed away in the early morning of February 27, 2015 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 6, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with John Curry, and Rev. Dr. Ran Loy, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Pampa, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with military honors courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. John was born March 5, 1947 in Crowell. He grew up in Pampa, graduating from Pampa High School. He attended West Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. John served our country in the Vietnam conflict and spent 17 years in the Navy and Marine Corps as a medical officer, retiring in 1992. His interests outside work were broad including photography, electrical work, computers, stock market trading, genealogy, and automotive work. John was devoted to his four children, his family, and was a generous help to friends and strangers alike when they needed it. He is preceded in death by his father, Fred John Carr; stepfather, Robert B. Echols; and brother, David Carr. Survivors include his four children, Jessica Bowley, David Carr, Kristina Ellis, and Ryan Carr; his mother, Reed Echols of Pampa; his siblings, Susan Stiggins, Mike Carr, Robert Echols, and Steven Echols; and 11 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
