Claudie Glenn Free

August 15, 1943 — February 26, 2015

Claudie Glenn Free, 71, of Pampa, departed this life on Thursday, February 26th, 2015 in Lampasas, after a long battle with congestive heart failure, COPD and Pick’s disease. Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Glenn "Sonny" Free was born August 15, 1943 in Pampa, to Roy and Margaret Free. Sonny was proud to say that he served in the US Army with his initial assignment to Germany with his beautiful wife Shirley. After being honorably discharged from the US Army he then began a career with Mid-America Pipeline Co. for a number of years. Following that, he was inspired to create his own business called Free Maintenance Company originating in Pampa and concluding in Round Rock. With the conclusion of his business, his focus turned to spoiling his 5 grandchildren rotten. In his words, “They were not spoiled rotten, they were well loved.” Sonny's hobbies included restoring classic cars as well as working on cars in general. He never met a stranger and would enjoy conversation over a good ole cup a coffee at the local café. He was the "give the shirt off his back" kind of man and instilled those traits in his girls. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Faye Crawford Free; his parents, Roy and Margaret Free; and his sister Patricia. He is survived by a daughter, Tracy Free LaVelle and husband Rod of Greeley, Colorado, and her sons, Garrett Duvall of Lincolnton, GA and Quaid Hamilton of Thornton, Colorado; a daughter, Shannon Free Matthews and husband Vic, and their son Zakk, all of Round Rock; a daughter, Natasha Free Hall and husband Isaac, and their two girls, McKinley and Hailey, all of Lampasas; and his brother, Jimmy Free and wife Cheryl of Pampa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to VFW Post 1657, 105 S. Cuyler, Pampa, Texas 79065, in loving memory Of Glenn Free, US Army.
