James Edward Trusty, 81, of Pampa, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, in Pampa. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Foster, with Rev. Dr. Ran Loy, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. James was born August 22, 1933 in Mobeetie, Texas to Claude and Maude Corcoran Trusty. He was raised in Lefors, Texas and was a 1951 graduate of Lefors High School. He attended West Texas State University, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and received his Master’s Degree in 1956. On July 3, 1952, he married Valta Welch in Amarillo. They celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 3, 2014. Valta preceded him in death on September 18, 2014. While attending college, James worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and First National Bank of Amarillo. In 1956, he began a career with the Pampa Independent School District that included math teacher at Pampa Junior High School, assistant principal at Pampa Junior High School, assistant business manager, deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. During his time as assistant superintendent and superintendent, he was instrumental in school renovations, quality cafeteria facilities and food, and the conversion of school buses to CNG fuel. James retired in 1986 after 30 years with Pampa Independent School District. He was dedicated and committed to the education of our young people. James had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1961. Survivors include a son, Philip Trusty of Dallas and numerous cousins.
