Roy Harper, 67, of Skellytown, died April 7, 2015 in Skellytown. Memorial services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 11, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Skellytown, with Carter Pirtle, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Harper was born December 1, 1947 in Paducah. As a young boy, his family moved to Pampa where he attended school, and graduated from Pampa High School in 1966. In high school, he was a gifted athlete, playing varsity football and baseball. He was awarded both football and baseball scholarships to Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. During college and a short time afterwards, he was a National Guardsman. After college, Roy moved to Dallas where he worked for CIT Finance, and later for Chase Bank in Dallas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After his retirement, he moved back to the Pampa and Skellytown area. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and entering cook-off competitions. He was a Baptist. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Harper. Survivors include a son, Cody Harper Blume of Galveston; two brothers, Gary Harper of Skellytown and Freddie Harper and wife Becky of Canadian; a sister, Alice Harris and husband J. T. of Pleasanton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gerry Caylor, 2130 Charles, Pampa, Texas 79065.
