Margret Whatley, 79, of Groom, joined the Lord Saturday, May 2, 2015, in Amarillo. Celebration of life will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at United Methodist Church in Groom, with Rev. Todd Dyess, pastor, and Pastor Andy Dietz, of First Baptist Church in Groom, officiating. Burial will follow at Groom Cemetery, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Whatley was born October 12, 1935 in Gray County to John and Odell Stokes Baggerman. She married Curtis Whatley on August 15, 1954 in the Baggerman home. Margret attended Grandview Community School and was a 1954 Pampa High School graduate. She was a homemaker, baker and farmer. Margret was a member of the United Methodist Church in Groom. She operated many café’s in Groom, White Deer and Claude as well as cooking for the Senior Citizens in White Deer for many years. Margret was well known for her delicious homemade pies. Margret was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Darrell Whatley; two brothers, Johnny Baggerman and Vernon Baggerman; two sisters, Caroline Couts and Mildred Miller. Survivors include her husband, Curtis Whatley of the home; three daughters, Debbie Tigg and Sheila Whatley both of Amarillo and Sharlene Lewis and husband Howell of Groom; two daughters-in law, Charlotte Whatley of Groom and Carol King of Amarillo; two sisters, Irene Baggerman of Amarillo and Roselle Collingsworth of Pampa; four brothers, Ruben Baggerman of Groom, Nace Baggerman of Claude, Franklin Baggerman of Lubbock and James Baggerman of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren with one on the way and one great-great grandson; many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to United Methodist Church in Groom or to White Deer Senior Citizens.
