David (Dave) Bernard Kohler, 83, died May 16, 2015 in Longwood, Florida. Memorial services were held May 21, 2015 in Maitland, Florida. Arrangements were under the direction of DeGusite Funeral Home of Maitland. Mr. Kohler was born March 24, 1932 in West Palm Beach, Florida, to William and Edith Parke Kohler, and spent his younger years in Florida. His father was a sports instructor who taught swimming and boxing to children of many of the rich and famous in the area. At the age of three, Dave was in a boxing match with Ted Kennedy. He lost that match. The press was there and nicknamed Dave “Curly Kohler” due to his curly hair. There are pictures of this match in a book published in 2013 entitled “Rose Kennedy’s Family Album.” The family moved to Long Island where he graduated from high school. He attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1955. He met and pinned Nancy Patterson (Whitten) there. They were married in Stony Brook, New York in 1955. After graduation from college, he secured a job working on UNIVAC, one of the first computers. He continued in that line of work his entire career. They moved a total of ten times in their twelve years of marriage, including Australia, where their third son, Timothy, was born on Leap Year Day. Dave was an avid New York Yankee fan. He and Nancy were fortunate to go to Yankee Stadium several times and see Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris in their famous homerun battle. There are four children of that marriage: Richard Kohler and wife Darlene of Lewisville; Daniel Kohler and wife Glenda of Pampa, Timothy Kohler of Arlington, and Cindy Kohler of Austin. He has two grandchildren, Phillip Kohler and Monica Kohler, both of Pampa. Dave later married Janet Dolittle, and there are three daughters of that marriage: Lindsay Quinn, Ashley Whittemore and Chelsea Kohler. Dave loved life and had a wonderful sense of humor and fun. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
