Charles R. Tanner, 78, of Pampa, died Monday, June 15, 2015, at his home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. At Mr. Tanner’s request, there will be no services held. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Charles was born Dec. 10, 1936 in Fleetwood, Oklahoma to Z. L. and Norma Tanner. He attended school in Terral, Oklahoma, graduating in 1955. He married Jacquetta “Jackie” Hare on Dec. 22, 1957. Charles enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in June of 1958 and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas, Montgomery, Alabama, Amarillo, Texas and Okinawa, Japan where he trained to become a Radiologic Technologist prior to his honorable discharge in March of 1961. After his service, Charles and Jackie made their home in Pampa where he joined the staff at Highland General Hospital in June of 1961. He remained employed at the Pampa hospitals for 43 years, and was named director of the Radiology Department in September of 1975. He retired in July of 2004, and after his retirement, Charles remained active in community healthcare, working at Pampa Heart Clinic for another five years. Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Junior, Toby, and Ralph; and five sisters, Sybil, Edith, Marie, Gadie, and Doris. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jackie, of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Tanner Lamberth of Albuquerque, NM; a son, Craig R. Tanner and wife Sarah of Sorrento, Florida; a grandson, Cody Lamberth of Leavenworth, Kansas; a granddaughter, Caitlyn Tanner of Groom, Texas; two sisters, Mary Lou Fenoglio and Betty Williams, and a brother, Royce Tanner. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Accolade Hospice and also to Scott Carlton for their skilled care and genuine concern during a difficult time.
