William “Tom” Black, 79, of Pampa, died July 6, 2015 in Pampa. Memorial graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Norman Rushing, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Black was born December 30, 1935 in Amherst to Bertie and Beulah Black and attended schools in Amherst. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1955. He married Sharon Johns on May 11, 1965 in Pampa and they were married until 1990. He later married Maureen Curtis in 1990 and she preceded him in death in 2010. Tom worked as a painter and sandblaster for several years before starting his company, Black’s Painting and Sandblasting which he owned and operated from 1970 until present. Tom was an avid horseracing fan. When he could, he would travel to Ruidoso, New Mexico, Hot Springs, Arkansas and other horseracing tracks. Later in his life, he cared for all types of animals including geese, donkeys, horses and llamas. Tom will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Bertie and Beulah Black; a son, Toddy Black; a brother, Gayland Black; and three sisters, Laverne James, Lavon Ward and Ladell Flannigan. Survivors include his daughter, Teresa Black-Arnold and husband Todd of Arlington; two grandsons, Erik Black of Arlington and Ryan Black and wife Julie of Enid, Oklahoma; a great granddaughter, Kaytlin Black of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Kathy Black of Enid, Oklahoma; the children’s mother, Sharon Black of Arlington; step daughter, Vicki Hembree of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; and step son, Mark Curtis of Justin.
