Bertie Lee Couch, 78, formerly of Pampa, passed away on July 17, 2015 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Pastor Carter Pirtle of First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Bertie was born in Crosbyton on December 1, 1936 to Derrell and Louise Green. She grew up in the Littlefield area where she also attended school. After high school she moved to Pampa in 1955. She worked at Arco and she also owned and operated her own restaurant in Skellytown called Couch’s Café for several years. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Skellytown. In 2002 she moved to Amarillo to be closer to her family. Bertie was a very generous woman. She helped with others and cooked dinners for those who needed it. Bertie always put others before herself but what made her happiest was being with her family especially her grandchildren. Bertie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Garry McCarthy; a daughter, Debbie Jenkins; 2 sisters, Billie Vance and Ruth Norris; 2 brothers, Bobby Green and Derrell Green, Jr. She is survived by a son, Phillip McCarthy of Amarillo; two daughters, Sandra Jones and husband Harold and Bobbie Thompson and husband Larry, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Nelda Rickels of Arizona, and Frances Moore of Yukon, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
