Leta Herring, 79, of Pampa, died Friday, July 24, 2015, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dallas Stringer, pastor, and Rev. Richard Bartel, associate pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Ms. Herring was born Aug. 6, 1935 in Pampa, attended Pampa schools, and graduated from Pampa High School. After high school, she attended nursing school. A short time later, she started her family and traveled extensively through her husband’s military deployments. In 1966, she returned to Pampa, and she has resided here since that time. After returning to Pampa, she worked as a food service supervisor for Coronado Hospital and Pampa Nursing Center. Leta was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. She liked the arts and enjoyed drawing and painting. More importantly, Leta loved life, and she never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Bridges and husband Johnny of Pampa and Judy Huggins and husband Jimmie of Stratford; two sons, Frank Herring and wife Charlene of West Plains, Missouri and Vernon “Opey” Herring and wife Pamela of Pampa; two brothers, Aaron Laverty and wife Claudetta of Mobeetie and Austin Laverty and wife Mary Ann of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
