Dorothy Jane “DJ” Crain Pennington, 70, of Forney, formerly of White Deer, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2015 in Forney. Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 15, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in White Deer, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry R. Lane, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Dorothy or “DJ” as she was affectionately known was born on May 28, 1945 in Amarillo to Newton & Faye Crain. She was raised in Canyon and was a graduate of Canyon High School and also attended Clarendon College. She was a member of the White Deer United Methodist Church and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She worked as a teacher’s aide at White Deer Elementary and Grapevine ISD and she was a certified veterinary technician for 22 years in Lewisville and Grapevine. She married Phillip Wayne Pennington on July 12, 1984 in Love County, Oklahoma. DJ lived in Happy, White Deer for 21 years, Grapevine for 25 years, Pampa for 4 years, and had been a resident of Forney since 2012. She was a very giving and unselfish person and always willing to volunteer for a worthy cause or to help someone, or just do something just to brighten someone’s day. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother and she was very proud of being “Gigi” to her grandchildren. She also had many other kids through her life she adored and called her own as well as many friends she cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, Newton and Faye Crain; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Van and Ruth Pennington. DJ is survived by her husband, Phillip Pennington of the home; three daughters, Christle Frost Brown and husband Kevin of Panhandle, Charla Frost Shults and husband Wendell, and Cherie Frost Duke, all of Pampa; two stepsons, Michael Pennington of Forney, and Patrick Pennington of The Colony; a sister, Charlotte Slay of Canyon; a nephew, Joel Slay of San Antonio; a niece, Carolyn Mullins of Haslett; eight grandchildren, Kristopher Brown, Kinsey Brown, Madilyn Shults Thompson and husband Schrade, Blake Sark, Casey Sark, Ryan Pennington, Taylor Pennington, and Janice Shults. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 835, White Deer, Texas, 79097, or the organization or charity of your choice. Please do one random act of kindness in the memory of her giving spirit. DJ will lie in state from 8:00 AM-8:00 PM Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Pampa, and the family will receive visitors from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
