Dorothy Marie Noel Hammons, 87, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with the Rev. Dr. Dewey D. Wheat, Jr., pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Hammons was born Aug. 13, 1928 in Claude to John and Florence Noel. She attended schools throughout Texas and was a graduate of Pampa High School at the age of 56 with her GED. Dorothy married Charlie Edward Hammons on March 21, 1945 in Tulia. They were married for 56 years when he preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2001. Dorothy had been a resident of Pampa for over 50 years before moving to Amarillo in 2001. She was a Baptist, a homemaker, a master quilter, a master embroiderer, a great cook, and a very accomplished seamstress. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Roy, Jimmy, and Jerry Noel. Survivors include three daughters, Jane Ellen Hammons and Nan Smith and husband Danny, all of Amarillo, and Cheryl Olson of Sidney, Montana; a son, Jon Hammons and wife Dee of Clovis, New Mexico; a grandson, Eric Alan Nolte of Denton; a great grandchild, Nova Noelle Nolte of Denton, and her special dog, Tillie. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
