Gwendolyn Boyd Saxon, 87, of Skellytown, died October 6, 2015 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 12, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with Pastor Carter Pirtle of First Baptist Church in Skellytown, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Gwen was born October 2, 1928 in Breckenridge to Hardy C. and Mabel E. Boyd. They moved to the oil fields of Carson County, where she attended schools in Skellytown and White Deer. While attending Texas Tech, she met Emmette Saxon on a “blind date”. They married June 20, 1949 in Skellytown. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2001. Gwen was a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, Community Church of Skellytown, and was a volunteer worker at White Deer Food Bank in White Deer. She was passionate about ceramics and craft shows, and conducted “ceramic how-to” classes to all who were interested. She was a devoted wife, mom, PTA president, and scout den mother. Gwen was also preceded in death by her parents, Hardy and Mable, and a grandson, Stephen. Survivors include three sons, Harold Saxon and wife Nancy of San Antonio, Jerry Saxon and wife Diana of Amarillo, and David Saxon and wife Kathy of Puyallup, Washington; seven grandchildren, Carlissa, Seth, Susanna, Mabelle, Collin, Philip, and Andrea; and four great-grandchildren.
