Judy Kay Dunn Sims, 65, of Amarillo and formerly of Pampa, died October 22, 2015 in Amarillo. Services will be at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 24, at Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ in Pampa, with Keith Feerer, minister, officiating. Cremation will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. While the Judy many people knew has long been gone and replaced by a happy, naïve little girl personality and then a lost, searching lady in her shell, all will be missed. Judy was born January 11, 1950, at the long time gone Pampa Hospital in Pampa to Arlie Allan and Lorene (Smith) Dunn and attended schools in Pampa graduating in 1968. Judy married William Greg Sims on June 12, 1970. After high school, Judy worked at FW Woolworth and ME Moses before leaving the job market to be “the best mom ever” to her children. She went to work for PISD food service after her children were old enough to help take care of themselves and worked there in various positions until her ailment forced her to retire in December, 2005. She was a member of the Mary Ellen-Harvester Church of Christ congregation in Pampa. She was a loving daughter to her mom and dad, sister and sister-in-law, wife, daughter-in-law, mother, mother-in-law and MeMa. In her fleeting years, Judy loved to watch little kids at play and doing all those little things little kids do, as mentally she was a little kid, too. She loved the time spent with her grandchildren, not always realizing exactly who they were, but none the less, enjoying them. She lost memories of loved ones, names of family members, things nobody can understand. She didn’t know her last name or Greg’s name, but she knew until late in the progression of the disease that Greg was “my man”. Survivors include her husband, Greg of Amarillo; two sons, William David Sims and wife Julie of Lefors, and Bryan Arlie Sims and wife Deawn of Pampa; a daughter, Angela Kay Shipman and husband James of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Danielle Lanette Sims, Megan Paige Sims, Laney Kay Shipman, Ryleigh Dawn Shipman, Michael Arlie Sims, and Logan Allen Sims. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Allan Dunn and wife Bertha of Lakeview; a sister-in-law, Jo Dunn Taff and husband Larry of Hull; two brothers-in-law, Mickey Lynn Sims of Amarillo, and Randall Howard Sims and wife Sue of Sunray; a sister-in-law, Sandra Gayle Sims Boales of Pampa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Billy Ray Dunn and Jerry Don Dunn; and her parents-in-law, William Mickey “Bill” and Christine LaVelle (Rossmiller) Sims. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please make a contribution to Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ at PO Box 2438 in Pampa, Texas, 79066-2438; Alzheimer’s Association, 415 W. 8th Ave., Suite 300, Amarillo, Texas 79101; or a favorite charity of your choice. Judy loved attending the Jan Werner Adult Day Care Center. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Jan Werner Adult Daycare Center, past and present, for their devotion and the many hours of service, not only to Judy, but everyone who is a client there. Also, thanks goes out to Odyssey Hospice and their past and present staff for the care they gave Judy and to all the past and present staff at the Cottages at Quail Creek, Judy’s final residence. The family will receive friends and guests at the Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ fellowship hall (south building) from 1:15–3:30 PM Saturday before the services.
