George M. Ford, 85, of Pampa, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Mary Ellen & Harvester Church of Christ, with Keith Feerer, minister, and Glen Walton, associate minister of San Jacinto Church of Christ of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the U. S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Ford was born Feb. 24, 1930 in Hereford. He attended grammar school in Hereford where he graduated from Hereford High School in 1949. On January 4, 1951, George proudly entered the U.S. Navy where he became a member of the United States Naval Construction Forces (NCF) commonly known as the “Seabees” and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In 1954, he returned home and attended West Texas State University studying mathematics and geology. George married Janice Skinner on Feb. 2, 1962 in Amarillo and they spent 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2012. He and Janice moved to Pampa in 1964 where he had been a resident ever since. He worked as the head of engineering at Highland General Hospital in Pampa. Later, he was the entrepreneur of Ford Electric and Refrigeration in Pampa. George was a member of Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ. He will be remembered as a loving, compassionate, dedicated, dependable, and selfless husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include 5 daughters: Robyn Ford of Dallas, Tina Green and husband Kelly of Poolville, Kay Smith and husband Randy of Amarillo, Shawna Ford and fiancé Scott Sullivan of McKinney, and Shannon Chesser and husband Jason of Beaverton, Oregon; 2 sisters: Patsy D’Herde of Waco and Betty Rickert and husband Ronald of Amarillo; 2 brothers: Joe Ford of Houston and Lee Ford of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, parents, Jesse and Olive Ford, 2 sisters, Rosa Lueb and Margie Ford, and 2 brothers, J.F. Ford and Ernest Ford.
