Betty Anne Culberson Cain, 90, of Dallas and formerly of Pampa, passed away on November 21, 2015 in Dallas surrounded by her children. Services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 28, 2015 in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa with John Curry officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. A celebration of life gathering will also be held in January of 2016 in Pampa. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Cain was born June 30, 1925, in Roy, New Mexico, to Frank and Esther Culberson. She was a graduate of Pampa High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Betty married Don E. Cain, former State District Judge of the 254th Judicial District, on June 14, 1952, in Pampa. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2007. Betty taught school in Pampa for 22 years at Travis Elementary and Pampa Junior High School. She was a beloved classroom teacher who influenced many young lives. She was a member of PEO and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women educators. A gifted pianist who played for church services beginning when she was in the third grade; Betty was active in church and community activities and much loved by family and friends. She was gracious and generous in her encounters with everyone. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Catherine Brown. Survivors include three sons, David Cain of Dallas, attorney and former State Senator and Representative, and his wife Sally; Don E. Cain, Jr., of Dallas, former president of AT&T in Oklahoma and Texas, and his wife Kathy; and Randy Cain of Austin, attorney and former assistant city attorney and chief lobbyist for the City of Dallas, and his wife Kathy; a daughter, Dale Husen of Lubbock, a former high school and junior college educator; two sisters, Dorothy Stowers and husband Dick of Pampa, and Carol Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa. Betty will be greatly missed by her ten grandchildren, Douglas Husen, Corrie Zabella, Zachary Husen, David Cain, II, Kayla Foltmer, Jennifer Cain, Abigail Cain, Roger Cain, Eliza Cain and Michael Cain; and seven great grandchildren, Hayden Husen, Alexandria Husen, Madeline Zabella, Ansley Husen, Donovan Zabella, Holly Husen and Finley Foltmer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lovett Memorial Library, 111 N. Houston Street, Pampa, Texas 79065; or White Deer Land Museum, 116 S. Cuyler Street, Pampa, Texas 79065. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, November 27, 2015, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
